“Inside the emotionally intelligent brain”

The Research Cluster in Emotions in Society is delighted to announce a seminar by Professor Billy O’Connor entitled “Inside the Emotionally Intelligent Brain” which will take place at 1pm TODAY in the Lonsdale building (behind bus stop near SU building).
Professor Billy O’Connor will report on the latest neuroscience findings on how the emotional brain works and show that in looking at the way the brain is wired we can remove the mystery of our feelings, particularly the compulsive ones. The seminar will also point to the extraordinary malleable circuitry of the brain and its ability to shape the experience of our emotions.
The approach taken is informal and this discussion will be of interest to people who have no medical/scientific training. All are welcome.
Professor Billy O’Connor is Foundation Professor and Chair of Physiology at the University of Limerick Medical School and has held appointments at several medical schools including Head of Neuroscience Research in University College Dublin and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Billy has a strong commitment to scientific outreach and communication as best illustrated through his popular website ‘Inside the brain http://inside-the-brain.com/ which was a finalist in this year’s Irish Blog Awards and which reports on the latest from the world of brain research including recent neuroscience findings to get the best from your brain.
The Research Cluster currently draws on members from areas as diverse as Sociology, Psychology, Medicine, English, Business, Politics, Education, Music and Law and aims to examine the impact of emotions in society through cross-disciplinary analysis of the area. All are welcome to come along to the conversation where we would be happy to discuss the cluster in more detail.
